It's so easy to say you'll listen
But do you know what that really means?
It means opening the dam and standing still letting the water rush over you and not making any attempts to dry yourself. It means digging for hours only to find what you've been looking for is smaller than a penny. It means that it'll actually be my turn to talk for once.
It means you shutting up.
And I know you can’t do that.
So I appreciate the sentiment,
But I’d rather be the one to listen…

As a talker, I have to say while listeners may not have many advantages, they seem to have one really big one: they're not open books. They don't open themselves up to rejection, and they don't run the risk of having what they say thrown in their faces or used as ammunition later on. But I definitely sympathize with you. It can't be easy not being able to express yourself without having other people shove their problems down your throat. Loved your poem.
